I just returned from inside Rubio Canyon, and spoke with a Forest Service fire crew who were clearing a trail that runs above each home… for their “second line” of defense. This crew described the trail parts that we saw run from above Zane Grey to Loma Alta, around Camp Huntington and the reservoir, and up from there toward Rubio Highlands. They were tired, have been eight days on the line from the Morris Fire to here, but had good spirits and a thick coating of dust and grime.

They emphasized to me that there are many firefighters up where it is burning, two major ridges above where I was with them. A lot of folks are working hard for us all.
